Still Here

A paired object that shows the other room's availability and lets both play when they're free.

What I built:

Two identical desk objects, one for each room, connected by a wire. Each has a dial to set availability and a small screen showing both states. When both are available, they can play a short two-player game. Nothing is sensed or stored, and the wire keeps all communication within the flat.

How it decides:

The dial shows whether someone is available, with a small threshold to keep the state from constantly switching. The games also use fixed rules, like how close counts as “caught” or how long a round lasts. Nothing is guessed or sensed about the person the object only turns the values they choose into a display or game state.

What it does not know:

The object knows very little about the people using it. It only knows the availability they choose to set.It does not identify anyone, store information, or send anything beyond the wire.
